I learned how to print on an Anycubic Photon, and it was a great experienced. I pushed that machine to its fullest, and was quite happy with the results. However, as I do a lot of small detail items, I wanted something with better resolution. So after a lot of research, I chose a Phrozen Sonic Mini 4K as my next printer. I have been printing since it arrived and it just blows my Photon away with much more detail. I thought a 4K LCD would be much faster, like 2-3 sec layers but in reality as I use Siraya Tech resins (some hard ones, like Blu and Tenacious) it isn't as fast as I had hoped. Still, the detail is definitely there and I am very happy with the results. I think this is the best large-format resin 3D printer, but there are alternatives available. These include the Phrozen Mighty 8K, the most direct competitor to the Photon M3 Max. Runner-Up: Phrozen Mighty 8K On the other hand, if you just want to get started with 3D printing and have a low budget, buying a high-resolution resin printer may not be the best decision.

Once your model is printed, it will need to be cleaned and cured before it’s ready to use. This process can be time-consuming, so make sure you know what’s involved before you buy a high-resolution resin printer. However, this really depends on what you’re printing: a low-detail model swiped off of Thingiverse will come out identically to any run-of-the-mill 4K printer, but a high-quality model dripping with detail will benefit hugely from the bump to 12K. A new, easy-release film that requires less force to detach a cured layer of resin, specialty high-speed resin, and shorter exposure times makes the overall print speed faster. I think I speak for everyone when I say that this is what the community has been clamoring for for a while now. A couple of bad things I should point out. The printer only comes with a Euro plug, and the lead is far too short! Also, the tape on the edge of the LCD is really heavy, so that was replaced by Kapton tape (Phrozen has stated this is allowed as long as you don't mess with the actual LCD). The vat and screws is something I still don't like much. Also, the quality of the FEP that comes with it isn't that great but it does work. Phrozen also provides you with some sand paper for the build plate, but I didn't find this necessary and have not had any problems.

The Anycubic Photon Mono 2 requires the same safety precautions as other resin printers. Uncured resin is dangerous, and the solvents used to clean your prints can be irritating to the skin. Use gloves and safety glasses when pouring resin and handling uncured prints.
