Description

This can happen when a child is emotionally abused but as this is a children’s book, I feel maybe it is showing the realism of emotional abuse too much. just because he feels like it, and is never sorry in the least (he never actually says sorry to her once in the entire book). Perhaps after her conversation with Casper Dream Violet had faced up to the fact that Will was less than perfect as a brother? Jacqueline has won the prestigious Smarties Prize and the Children's Book Award for DOUBLE ACT, which was also highly commended for the Carnegie Medal.

After Will forces her to play a game of 'Blind Man Buff' which she hates, she still played it - because when Will found out he was adopted spent all his time in his room and rarely even talked, let alone play with Violet, she was desperate to rebuild their relationship - and was attacked by bats. I have done this because I feel that the Goodreads synopsis promises the story as something better than it is.

It deals with a relationship issue, very possible abuse, definite verbal abuse towards wife and kids, in my personal opinion. They work for a while and then play Truth and Dare where Will asks Violet who she likes better, him or Jasmine. Even though she adores Will, Violet refuses to spend a day with him, to go to Brompton Woods, and instead chooses to go to Jasmine's house. The adapter, Vicky Ireland, has provided production notes to indicate how the play can be staged even with minimal resources - plus a lot of ingenuity! To be honest, if it was intended for adults and panned out the disturbing way that I imagined, it would probably be a pretty decent book (I'd read it).
