As the fights begin and the double crosses begin to spiral out of control, Palmer must reach inside himself to recapture the glory of his youth and ensure victory for Caine. Boxing Synopsis James Woods plays Gabriel Caine, a con man fresh out of jail, Woods teams up with aging prizefighter "Honey" Roy Palmer (Louis Gossett Jr.

The golden age of Hollywood is long gone now, but that chase for an audience still goes on, and it helps if a film does more than one thing. Gabriel Caine ( James Woods), a con man, is released from prison in Winfield, Georgia and immediately gets to work on his next scam. In 'Midnight Sting' (1992), ex-con Gabriel Caine (James Wood) heads for Diggstown, a place where unofficial boxing matches are held for big prize money. For con artist Gabriel Caine (Woods), Diggstown is the promised land, legendary for its high-stakes boxing matches that attract high-rollers from miles around.

Roy Palmer was leaning against the ropes between each round in the first few fights; fighters don't do that, since it makes the arm muscles tense and sore. Also since the con involves boxing, there`s no place for finesse here, and ultimately the execution is quite fittingly brutal. Caine and his partner, Daniel Patrick O'Shannon "Fitz" Fitzpatrick ( Oliver Platt), travel to a small town not far from the prison: Diggstown, a city obsessed with boxing. But Roy comes out swinging, pulverising one contender after another, leading to a final exciting bout that may decide the ownership of the town itself!

Diggstown is taken from our vast archive of rare publicity stills, portrait photographs and transparencies.

Doing time has proved to be a valuable learning experience where he first heard of Diggstown, the rural capital of illegal cash fighting, which, as a gambling venture, is a con artist’s dream. Der frisch aus dem Knast gekommene Kunstfälscher Gabriel Caine (James Woods) wettet mit dem reichsten Mann von Diggstown John Gillon (Bruce Dern), dass der 48 jährige Boxer Roy Palmer (Louis Gosett Jr. It does serve to provide motivation for the characters, but then the light-heartedness begins to creep back in, and the dénouement seems out of place given the occurrences 30 minutes prior. The film is decidedly low budget and simply made, but benefits from a good script and a stellar cast.
