All it might take is one person inspired by these movies to pick up a camera and make one of their own. The participants are honest about the feature, but the tone is generally celebratory, sure to please fans. When Howard reveals that he plans to transform Wallace into a freakish recreation of a walrus, it’s up to Teddy ( Haley Joel Osment) and Ally ( Genesis Rodriguez) – as well as the French-Canadian inspector Guy LaPoint (Johnny Depp) – to track him down before it’s too late. Edit: Reader Travis Hill pointed out that this sequel does carry forth the Lovecraft adaptation theme, as the plot is an adaptation of “The Curse of Yig. Use the thumbs up and thumbs down icons to agree or disagree that the title is similar to The Deadly Spawn. With extra materials compiled from the personal collections of the cast and crew, THE DEADLY SPAWN can finally invade your home theatre in the best version ever! I know, I know, it's all in the name of B-movie fun, yet it's difficult to get into an enterprise that appears to fall asleep on occasion, doing extraordinarily little with a promising concept collected from hundreds of merry creature features. A grotesque creation defined by its cavernous, teeth-filled mouth, the titular menace is memorable, giving the filmmakers something horrible to work with as they stage numerous stalking sequences, with the beast's sperm-like offspring (a direct reference to "Alien") excitedly taking down the locals, including a climatic assault on a lunch party populated with middle-aged women.

Instead, it’s a hospital under siege by a larval insect monster that bursts forth from a patient and goes on an infectious rampage. Colors are boosted but clotted, with red making a satisfactory impression from costuming and bloodletting. Scoring cues hold to their creeping synth intention, but fail to provide a desired crispness, buttressing the macabre events.

The performances come off as bland, but that doesn’t concern me, as we don’t look to horror movies for great performances. Directed by Wu Ma (one of Hong Kong cinema’s most beloved multi-hyphenates; writing, directing, producing, and acting in a career spanning over 50 years) in perhaps his best directorial effort, and also starring Sammo Hung – The Dead and the Deadly is a must-see for both horror and action fans. This creature feature wins entertainment points for its title alone; there are no monkeys here, let alone a blue one. So now Synapse is going to pour all their efforts into Trick or Treat or other newer acquisitions while older acquisitions like Deadly Spawn continue to get pushed back further and further.I think we all know this movie will never look pristine, but it deserves a sharper, more natural treatment than this. There have been rumblings for the past few years of a pending Blu-ray release of The Kindred, finally freeing it from its trapped-on-VHS status, but as of now it remains a relatively obscure ’80s creature feature.

The creature effects look incredible for this kind of production, with effective visual presence and movement. Notable genre actors Seth Green and Ami Dolenz also star, and look for Alfonso Ribeiro playing against type during peak popularity of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air . The Deadly Spawn" is one of those no-budget horror pictures crafted by filmmakers who love horror pictures that just barely classifies as a horror picture. I cringed when I heard what he said in that last podcast about why he won't release it but not surprisingly, his comments were different than when he asked about it in a previous podcast.Five years after he was murdered by his own colleagues in a covert government operation, Al Simmons makes a pact with the devil to be resurrected so that he may see his wife Wanda once more. It's a shame the footage is so limited, as this collection of random moments truly underscores the backstage effort. In terms of special features, almost everything here has been ported over from the Synapse release, including some outtakes, audition footage, trailers, and a gallery.

Director William Fruet, who also helmed numerous episodes of Goosebumps TV series, Friday the 13th: The Series , and Killer Party, brings the fun.

That's my point - if Synapse hadn't picked this up, maybe another label might have gone for this one by now, like Vinegar Syndrome.
