Description

That’s the real hindrance of the Ascension-style deckbuilding market where you purchase from a public row. It doesnt help that the base cards remain in your deck, those 10 cards gum up any engine you might attempt. On the other, you might ramp up your influence to gain more and more powerful cards, levering promotions and points to compensate for a weak map presence. Inhabited by grotesque monsters and evil creatures, the Underdark is also home to a society of intelligent and decadent elves known as the Drow. This matriarchal civilisation is made up of ‘Houses’, renowned for their cunning, hedonism and complete lack of compassion, stopping at nothing to be the most revered and indeed, feared.

Tyrants of the Underdark: Second Edition Review

Most have been exactly the kind of fun adventure or conquest titles you’d associate with the license. That being said, I know what the Drow are and I thought the card art really brought to life the Drow and what they represent. She started, like most of us, on Dominion, but has moved on to more complex deck builders, like Trains and Valley of the Kings. While the cards available to you do provide you with a lot of options, the turns themselves play out relatively simply. You cannot mix the reprint cards with the original as there are material differences between the two sets of cards.

If true, this is a problem because if multiple people are adopting such a strategy you may find yourself unable to nab the needed cards.

Tyrants of the Underdark Review - IGN

Mobilise your troops, send out your spies, enlist the help of powerful minions and allies, assassinate your enemies’ forces - do whatever it takes to be come the ruling Tyrant of the Underdark! He now enjoys playing worker placement, deck building, dice driven and coop games with his primary gaming partner, his wife. This tit-for-tat trading of troops is the least interesting quality of play, providing a striking example of the game’s lack of dynamism. There’s enough vibrancy here to care and become invested, but your jaw is never going to drop and your pants won’t be set aflame. You’ll stretch your soldiers out from a start point, balancing controlling locations with speed of spread, racing your opponents to choke points. I’ve played several games since those early days, including sessions with the two expansion half-decks. The teach is simple and the complexities arrive in just crumb-sized portions late in the game when you’re able to afford the most expensive of cards.
